Numbers – Sometimes They Do Tell A Story – A Good One
11, 12, 150, 100,000 – Sometimes numbers tell a story – a good one. That happens to apply to the annual Canton Carnival of Wheels.
The show – a registered 501-c-3 charitable organization – is in its 12th year and will be held on Sunday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the campus of Stark State College on Frank Avenue in North Canton.
During its first 11 years the show’s top priority has been supporting students, specifically by donating all net proceeds to Stark State’s Automotive Technology Scholarship Fund. That priority remains central to the show’s organizers, and to date the Canton Carnival of Wheels has donated more than $100,000 to the fund. Those dollars have generated scholarships – and helped launch careers – for more than 150 students.

Each year’s Canton Carnival of Wheels has served as a showcase for owners of a diverse array of vehicles – old and new – that run the gamut from cars to trucks, motorcycles or virtually anything that runs on wheels. Last year some 100 sponsors supported the show.

The show’s mission statement has remained unchanged and sharply focused: We will organize family-oriented events featuring vehicles on wheels and sponsors’ displays that promote their products and services, including latest technologies, to advance business in the community. All net proceeds are donated to a local charity.
The show has no paid staff. Its five volunteer managing directors – Dick Mautz, Dan Thoma, Mike Johnson, Tom Cwynar, Brent Benzie – work with more than 40 other volunteers to make the show possible. There is no admission charge for spectators, and ample free parking is available on paved lots.
The vehicle participation fee is $10.
Families attending can enjoy a 50/50 drawing, a silent auction, engine valve cover car racing for adults, Hot Wheels racing for kids, the presentation of awards and an appealing range of food choices.
